Friday the 13th Strikes PETitionz.org!

We apologize to everyone who has been trying to get into the site for the past 10 hours or so.  It seems that our hosting service has been having DNS attacks (denial of service) and that we have been one of the victims.  Hopefully things are back to normal as we haven't even been able to receive email.  If you were trying to reach us please resend.

European Recall!

According to a hard working blogger at petfoodtracker.blogspot.com, there has been a recall list for Europe since March 22nd.  Scroll down to Menu Foods Recall Affects Europe.  Thanks to our PETitionz informers who first surfaced this possibility over a week ago.

Cynical Silence

There is an excellent article from Forbes commenting on the"cynical silence" from the pet food brands.  The article title is Misnavigating the Pet Food Crisis!

New York State Department of Agriculture

We spoke to a representative (the department that worked with the lab at Cornell).  He said they are currently buried in pet food samples (frightening visual) and they can't do fee-for-service work.  So we appreciate the names of any appropriate private labs that you might be aware of.

The lab at the University of Guelph, Ontario appears to have the same issues.

Visit PetConnection.com, Dogster.com and Catster.com for the latest available information.

A second Menu Foods tragedy avoided!

It is reported that Mark Wiens, CFO of Menu Foods, managed to sell 14,000 units on February 26/27, 2007.  Thank goodness that he managed to complete the sale just after the first animal died in their "in-house" taste tests and weeks before the recall.  If he hadn't, just think of the remarks that people could have made about his ethics, sense of responsibility or perhaps even hinting that the recall was delayed for personal gain . . . thank goodness it was only a coincidence.  Does it remind you of that other famous company - EndRun???

Political Response to Recall in British Columbia

It is reported "anecdotally" that an outraged pet owner asked 3 B.C. politicians for some form of assistance with tainted pet food that was still being sold.  They could not help her because they are busy preparing for the Olympics of 2010 . . .

Interesting inclusion on one class action lawsuit website.  A court decision that a pet in not a chatel!

That's it for now . . . we hope all of your pets are well.
